Ministry Teams

The session at Grace Presbyterian Church consists of Elders who oversee the spiritual life of the church as well as participate in the administration of church affairs.  Elders are elected by the congregation and serve for three years.  Session members are also assigned to one of the Ministry Teams listed below.

Building and Grounds: Dedicated volunteers meet every Wednesday to work on maintaining the church and park. (Contact Building and Grounds Chair)

Budget and Finance: This team prepares an annual budget and oversees the finances of the church (Contact Budget and Finance Chair)

Evangelism Team: The Evangelism committee is committed to helping people begin a life of relationship with God through fellowship, Bible study, and prayer.  They have started a weekly prayer time called Prayerful Beginnings.  These brief prayer sessions are at 9 AM on Mondays.  The team also organized a very successful summer Bible Study. Currently, Pastor Joe, is beginning a four week study on Spirtual Gifts. Be sure to check the church calendar for a number of summer activities, especially the Friends Sunday and Music in the Park. (Contact Evangelism Chair)

Stewardship: Working closely with Budget and Finance team, the task of the Steward committee is to challenge members to faithful stewardship and plan an annual commitment Sunday.  Our gifts of gratitude include not only money, but also our time and talents.  The goal is to increase our percentage in all three areas. (Contact Stewardship Chair)

Music and Worship:  This team is in charge of planning special worship services as well as preparing communion each month.  They make sure the sanctuary is ready for worship and they are also responsible for decorating the sanctuary for Christmas and Easter.  They also make sure the pulpit is filled when the minister is absent. (Contact Music and Worship Chair)

Music at Grace: We have a very active music ministry. Kirk Jackson is our choir director and Laura DeClue is our Bell Choir director. Mark Trautwein is our organist. To find out more about our music ministry, click here.

Christian Education:  This team oversees many areas, primarily, the Sunday School program.  They select curriculum, find teachers for classes, volunteers for Kinder Church, and staffing the nursery. This committee is also responsible for organizing Vacation Bible School, Hanging of the Greens, Birthday Party for Baby Jesus, decorating the Christmas trees in the church, Symbols of Easter, Easter Egg Hunt, Rally Day, Halloween party, and all youth activities. (Contact Christian Ed Chair)

Personnel Team: Assisting the pastor with writing job descriptions, conducting performance reviews, and other administrative duties related to hired staff, is under the direction of this ministry team.

Missions: This team works in conjunction with the Evangelism Team in order to carry out our work locally, nationally, and internationally. Our church has been a loving and generous congregation in our mission endeavors. To see a list of the many areas that we serve, click here. (Contact Mission Chair).

Gifts, Endowments, Memorials: A team of elected members ensure that all donations are acknowledged and that the funds are correctly disbursed according to the wishes of the families. To learn more about our GEM committee, click here.

Presbyterian Men: They meet on the third Saturday at 7 AM for a hot breakfast and a brief program.

Compassion Ministry: (Contact Compassion Team Chair) The Compassion Ministry of Grace Presbyterian Church is organized through our Board of Deacons. Mary Orr is the chairwoman for the Deacons. They provide outreach to those with a variety of needs.   Examples of support may include:

  • Caring for members by running errands and performing light chores
  • Arranging transportation for those who may need a ride to the doctor
  • Reaching out to members who are ill, or in nursing homes, through  regular visitations
  • Encouraging and supporting each other as we face life’s challenges

Presbyterian Women: Much of the work done at Grace Presbyterian is accomplished by our women’s group.  All women of the church are assigned to one of four circles.  Each circle meets once a month for Bible Study.  All circles then meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month for a program.  Circles also provide door greeters before church and refreshments following worship. ( Contact Presbyterian Women Moderator) Other projects organized by the PW include:

  • Fall Apple Butter Festival: Held on the first Saturday in October, the slow-cooked apple butter always brings a crowd.  Besides our apple butter, we also have a country store, trash and treasures as well as a delicious lunch served in fellowship hall.  Months of work done by the entire congregation make this a wonderful and successful event.  Proceeds from the apple butter have been used for many projects including new pew cushions, rest room renovations, purchase of a new copier, and (coming soon) a new floor in fellowship hall. Workers are needed September 18-19 to stir and can the apple butter. Contact Pat Sweet for more information on how you can volunteer.

  • Father-Son Banquet: This dinner is held on the first Monday in June. Check out our photo gallery for last year's pictures.

Adult Ministries

Adult Sunday School Class: Leader, Sally Borgerson uses the curriculum, “The Present Word” each Sunday morning as a basis for her class.

A second adult class is using the Serendipity Bible as a basis for study. They meet in Dewey's study at 9:30 AM

Feb. 21 6:15

6-Week Bible Study

New Testament World of Jesus:

Begins Tuesday, February 21 with dinner at 6:15 followed by DVD and discussion. The series enters around the historical circumstances leading to Jesus' death. Rev. Johnson will lead this 6 week course during Lent. Call the church office to sign up for this free Bible study. The format will follow what we did during the ALPHA and Life Worth Living series.

Wednesday Quilters: Quilters have been a part of Grace Presbyterian Church dating back to the first pastor, Rev. W.O Davis.  He provided transportation for the ladies to meet in each other’s homes.  Over the course of many decades, the quilters have made hundreds of quilts for the Presbyterian Children’s Home, the Fall Festival and other groups needing assistance.

Scrapbooking: Once a month on a Friday, members and friends gather in fellowship hall for a night of scrapbooking and snacking.  A Creative Memories Consultant is available to help organize the event. Check Calendar for Scrapbooking events.

Friends of Bill W. Meetings: Meetings are held at 7 PM each Thursday evening in Fellowship Hall

Youth Ministry

Terry O'Neill is our Youth Director who works with our teens at Grace. They meet on Sundays at various times and are currently organizing a Christian Band that plays at church occassionally.

Children’s Ministries

NEW Rotation Model for children's Sunday School. Children rotate through a series of stations that include art, music, computers, drama, cooking, and more!

Join us downstairs at 9:30 AM each Sunday morning.

Junior Sermon and Kinder Church: During worship, children come and sit on the steps for a junior sermon.  Afterwards, the children may choose to return to their pew or they may go to the Sunday school room for Kinder Church.  Volunteer teachers take turns providing a 30-45 minute Bible lesson.  Often, a movie, song, craft or snack is included.  Children are brought back to the sanctuary each month for communion. KInder Church is geared for children K-3rd grade. Older children are asked to remain in church with their parents. Children's bulletins are available for older children.

Rally Day: Rally Day festivities are normally held on the first Sunday in September. We not only return to the winter worship schedule, but we return to church after summer vacations and camps.  Rally Day is a casual celebration where we have a picnic lunch in the park.  Afterwards, kids and adults play bingo, or take their chance in the cakewalk.

Halloween Party: Fellowship Hall and sometimes the park are transformed into an eerie, but fun-filled place to host a Halloween party for our members.  Lots of food, fun, games, and giggles are sure to be found at our Halloween Party in late October.

.1

Hanging of the Greens is our annual worship service in December, where the children bring forth the various Christmas decorations in the sanctuary.  The event is narrated by re-telling the Christmas story.  This is one our most popular services held during the year.

Symbols of Easter is our annual Easter program much like the Hanging of the Greens.  The resurrection story is narrated as the children bring in the various decorations and symbols of the Easter story.

Easter Egg Hunt: Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is an event one is sure not to miss.  Held at 1 PM on the Sat. before Easter, the children can be found racing around the church park searching for the Easter eggs.  Afterwards, the Easter Bunny always makes an appearance.  She reads a story and distributes bags of treats to all the children. This year, the older children will made personal labyrinths and walked the portable labyrinth that was set up outside on Good Friday and Saturday.
